Limping Across The Finish Line
We have 4 more days until summer vacation. 4 more days. It feels like an eternity.
These last few weeks of school have dripped by like molasses. At the beginning of the school year everything is fresh and exciting but somewhere around mid-May, all the moms at school-pickup start to look tired and well, over it. The homework, the projects, the activities… it can get overwhelming.
It’s funny how when you’re a kid, you count down the days until summer vacation but when you grow up and graduate from school, you stop thinking about summer so much. Until you have kids in school. It’s like a vicious cycle.
Now I’m back to counting down the days until summer vacation.
As a mom, it’s the little things that throw me over the edge. For example, a couple of weeks ago, my son’s water bottle that fits inside his lunch box started to leak. I just kept screwing the cap on tighter but every day he would come home with water all over his lunch. So I bought him a new water bottle. After a few days with that water bottle, it started to leak too. Frustrated, I stepped up to the more expensive water bottle hoping that the higher quality would mean it wouldn’t leak. The first day he took it to school, he lost it. Mmm hmm. Yep. Lost it.
Did I mention we only have 4 more days? I am limping to the finish line.
I used to pack lunches that were creative and nutritious and I would include a cute little drawing in every lunch box. What? I have literally packed the same exact lunch for the last two weeks and I think he and I are both over the drawings.
Counting. Down. The. Days.
I am dreaming of pajama mornings and beach afternoons and backyard evenings. Oh summer I think I love you.
And yes, I realize that come August, I will be counting down the days until school starts. At least we’ll have brand new lunch boxes by then.
