Last week I had the unexpected pleasure of going on a romantic cruise to Jamaica with my husband. I say it was unexpected because my husband was invited by his company to go on this trip as a host and we only got the invite about two months in advance. My first reaction was that there was no way we could go. Kids, school, commitments…. how will it ever work?
As it turns out, where there’s a will, there’s a way. Because by the way, who says no to a free trip to Jamaica??? We scrambled to find a way to make it work. We flew to my in-laws’ in New Orleans to leave the kids with them and then flew to Florida to board the ship.
There’s a saying we learned in Jamaica: “Ya mon, no problem.” Totally appropriate.
I have to tell you that my son is 7 years old and in all that time we have never had FIVE WHOLE NIGHTS away by ourselves. What a treat. I can’t even begin to describe how relaxing it was. And my kids had such a wonderful time with their grandparents in Louisiana. It was a win/win.
I just had my camera phone with me but tried to capture a little of what we experienced. We stopped in ports in Haiti and Jamaica.
And when we got back, we were greeted with something that I think is very touching. One of my best girlfriends submitted my husband and me to this wedding/marriage blog that has a feature called Snapshot of a Marriage. We were interviewed for it and I’d like to share the result with you:
What a neat honor it was to tell our story. I am filled with gratitude for all the good things and beautiful people in my life these days. Life is pretty sweet when you stop to appreciate it.
