In two weeks, I’ll be heading to Albuquerque, New Mexico to participate in a fundraiser for the New Mexico Academy of Rock & Blues.
The New Mexico Academy of Rock & Blues is the brainchild of musician, singer, and songwriter Keith Sanchez. Keith is an amazingly talented guy who also happens to be my cousin, one of my best friends and my favorite collaborator.
After 25 years of working as a professional musician as well as many years working with children in public schools, Keith finally decided to fuse his two passions together. The fantastic outcome is the New Mexico Academy of Rock & Blues. NMARB is a comprehensive music school that teaches students the ins and outs of playing music. But at the same time, it inspires them to dream big and gives them the confidence to pursue life with a passion.
I remember having many conversations with Keith when this was all just an idea and I was involved from the beginning in helping to create the look and feel for the new venture. So I have been super excited to see it all come together. His passion is contagious and the success of the school is really a dream come true. I believe wholeheartedly in what he is trying to accomplish.
Along with his wife Ana and his long-time friend and musical collaborator, Glenn “Buddha” Benavidez, Keith established the NMARB this last summer with an 8-week camp. It was a huge success and something that I believe the city of Albuquerque is so lucky to benefit from.
So on November 11, the NMARB will be presenting an amazing evening of live music, art and poetry. New Mexico has a wonderfully creative and artistic vibe and I’m so excited and honored to be there and be a part of this wonderful crew of artists giving back to the children of the community. There will be a silent auction filled with art, woodwork, and photography as well as a performance by Keith Sanchez & The Moon Thieves. I think I’m most excited about the renowned poets who will also be there presenting their work. The money raised will fund scholarships for students to attend NMARB‘s winter camp.
If you’re in New Mexico, please come and see us!
