My husband Greg and I have been married for almost 19 years. When you add it up, that’s a lot of birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Days and Christmases. We’ve decided that the older we get, the less we need to buy each other gifts. We’d rather spend our money on experiencing things and making memories. It was with that in mind that we decided to attend Outstanding in the Field as a joint birthday gift this year.
I first read about OITF a few months ago on a blog I read regularly. The mission of OITF is to connect diners with the origins of their food and to honor the farmers and artisans who cultivate it. They bring chefs to local farms and utilize all locally sourced ingredients.
Luckily, I was able to find an event in our area that wasn’t sold out and we made our reservations for a dinner at Schaner Farms. So on Sunday, we got in our car and headed for the farmland in North County San Diego. I’m not sure words can even describe what an amazing evening this was and since I took many, many photos I will just let them do the talking. But before you get to the photos, let me just say that if you ever have an opportunity to attend one of these (they do them all across the country) make sure and go! You will not be disappointed.
