One of my best friends is getting married in a few months and I couldn’t be more excited for her. This last weekend, we all got together for a little shower/bachelorette celebration. I was in charge of the goody bags and I thought I’d share how I made them in case you’re looking for a creative and easy goody bag project.
First, let’s go over the supplies. I’ve showed you tote bag projects here before but this time I bought a slightly smaller size, and since our color palette was black/white with red hearts, I bought the white canvas bags instead of the natural color. You’ll also need a paint brush, some thick paper, a pencil with a new eraser and some red and black paint. I’ve used both acrylic paint and fabric paint because that’s just what I had on hand. Either will work.
Fold the thick paper in half and cut out a heart shape. I found that a smaller heart was a bit cuter for this project so don’t get too big with it.
Now you have a heart stencil. Place it in the center of your bag. You might want to iron the bag a little so you have a flatter surface to work on. Also, put a piece of cardboard in your bag so that the paint doesn’t bleed through to the other side.
With one hand, hold the stencil down as flat as you can and then carefully paint the heart red. Make sure to get all the edges without letting the paint bleed under the stencil too much. Remove the stencil carefully.
Next, dip your pencil eraser into your black paint.
Press the eraser onto the bag making dots that are fairly consistent and evenly spaced.
Easy and so cute.
We had 11 women coming so I had to get going on a bunch of these. Good thing they were pretty quick and simple.
All the girls who helped with the planning contributed something to the goody bag. We filled it with homemade spicy margarita mix, homemade brownies, a party CD, candy, gourmet cookies, lip balms, scrubs and nail polish. These girls I planned this party with gave Martha Stewart a run for her money. It was gorgeous and the bag was a big hit but most of all, it was fun and touching to spend time with amazing friends and celebrate a lovely bride!
