This last week has been cray-cray-crazy! I opened my Etsy shop about 2 weeks ago and …Holy Mabel… things have been rolling! I listed 6 paintings and have sold 4 of them in the last week! I am so happy about that and I am so grateful for all the support everyone has given me. The art biz is difficult at times and can be discouraging but when you get to do something you’re really passionate about and then people respond positively, there is no better feeling. So thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart! I plan to keep filling my shop with wonderful new work so there is always something available and ready to bring joy to your walls.
Being busy like this is my favorite thing in the world but it’s a bit hectic (especially with two small kids). So I thought I’d give you a peek at what’s going on in my home studio. Painting is only one small part of the equation. I have so many different things I’m doing at any given time. And I kind of thrive on the chaotic pace. Here’s a peek at the process. It is in no particular order that makes any kind of sense but that’s kind of the way the cookie rolls y’all.
I usually roughly sketch what I’m going to paint. But not always. Just depends how I’m feeling.
I have an inspiration board where I collect things I like: colors, styles, quotes, photos. Like Pinterest. But old school.
I usually have a few different paintings going at any one time. One will dry while I work on another. When this is going on things get messy, messy, messy.
Coffee. Yes. Very important.
Once I finish a painting, then I have to photograph it, paint the edges, sign it, and varnish it.
My book shelves are filled with poetry books and things that I use in my work.
Music is also very important to me. I always have music going in my studio. Thank goodness for genius playlists. Right now The Smiths are singing about dying by your side. Again, old school.
Once a piece is dry, I add a hanger to the back. Yay for chicks with power tools!
I spend A LOT of time on the computer. I have to edit photos, blog, update my website, update social media, send newsletters and answer emails. WHEW!!
Did I mention coffee?
My little assembly line of lovely ladies.
And then off she goes to her new home! Hooray! I love this part. This is what it’s ultimately all about.
And here’s me in my dirty work clothes and messy studio. Um, no as a matter of fact I haven’t had a shower yet today. Why do you ask?
So that’s pretty much what I’ve been up to lately. I love my little home art factory and I love sharing it with all of you. Make sure and visit my Etsy shop when you get a chance! I’ll just be here working and hoping I find time for a shower.
